The Noctaves Network runs on other people's rooftops, gardens and headlands. Every station is a partnership: someone provides the place, someone keeps an eye on it, and the birds do the rest.
Research institutes, individual birdwatchers, schools, nature guides, eco-lodges — the only thing our partners have in common is a spot where something interesting flies over at night.
Three ways in. Pick the one that suits you best.
Host a station
These are our devices, on your patch. We supply the Sonaves unit, install it and run it. You supply the location — and that is genuinely the whole arrangement.
No technical knowledge. No daily involvement. Nothing to maintain beyond the occasional cobweb.
We'll consider anywhere, but our budget is finite — for now we're focused on two migration bottlenecks.
If you're near either, we'd particularly like to hear from you. If you're somewhere else and the site is a good one, write anyway — we'd rather know.
Station reviewer
Every station needs a pair of eyes. Not many hours — but regular ones.
An admin looks after one device: checking it's recording cleanly, adjusting settings now and then, and reviewing what comes back — confirming what the AI got right and correcting what it got wrong. Every site has its own character and its own recurring false positives. Part of the job is learning yours.
Unlike most nocmig setups, you won't spend the small hours dragging through a spectrogram in Audacity hunting for a call that may not be there. The finding has already been done. Your job is judgement, not searching — listen, confirm, reassign or reject, move on.
Full training and ongoing support from us, and a season of your own site's migration, verified by you. Previous nocmig experience is welcome but not required. Curiosity and consistency matter more.
Own your own device
Sonaves devices are not for sale. The Sonaves units shown on this site are prototypes that Noctaves builds, installs and operates at agreed partner sites. They are not offered or supplied to the public.
Before any device is made available to others, it will go through the conformity assessment that applies to it, and we will publish its status here.
But an owner-run network is exactly where we want this to end up. Leave your email and you'll be among the first to know when we open it up.
